Words by Stella Daniels

1

Gifts are symbolic for appreciation and

love from the giver to the receiver and

can be a pretty tedious exercise.

Even if you think they already have everything

they’d ever need, giving gifts is a deliberate

expression of love and care.

Explore our lists of meaningful and creative

presents to gift your partner:

Men can seem challenging, but we can

assure you that there are two ways to

reach deeply into a man’s emotions, one,

either you get him a gift that he cannot

afford or you make a personalized gift.

Here are some ideas below.

Charging

dock/station:

If you’ve got it tech-savvy guy, a charging

dock is the next to best gift idea for him. Almost

nothing beats the feeling of plopping on your

work desk or even in bed and landing your

device directly on this desk-friendly wireless

charging station.

Cardholder

In these times, when

fewer cash transactions

are easing the stress

of going about with a

chunky wallet, buy him

a good cardholder that

could contain his credit

and ID cards that would

effortlessly slide into his

pocket.

Handwritten personal notes

Whether it’s a confession of love or

reaffirmation of commitment, a thoughtfully

and well placed handwritten note (or series

of handwritten notes) serves as a medium to

express love to one’s partner.

It’s a romantic gesture to place these notes

around where he’d find one everywhere he

turns.

Wearing matching outfits with your partner

is easily one of the cutest sight and

sweetest feeling, from bomber jackets to

custom printed T-shirts with funny and silly

quotes to matching shoes. When you’re

in love, you want everyone to know about

it. Wearing matching outfits is a way to

express love fashionably openly.

Watch

Whether it’s a casual

smartwatch, a G-Shock

or a classic leather

watch, a wristwatch

is a meaningful gift

that stands as a daily

reminder of the person

who gifted them to you.

Cologne set

It is a common knowledge that perfume

puts a finishing touch to the elegance and

class of one’s appearance. A bottle of

cologne bears the power to evoke emotion

any time one wears it, as smells have huge

memory links. Hence, why giving someone

cologne is a sign of affection. One beautiful

thing about cologne is that; they never go

out of fashion.

Personalized leather gifts:

They range from personalized wallets to

crucial holders, cardholders, journals,

bracelets, bags, AirPod cases, and

more. These go all the way to show the

recipient how much thought you put

into buying them something entirely

personal. You can choose to embed their

names, initials or a unique message they’d

treasure forever.

on Valentine’s Day from a simple YVES Durit brush &

A framed romantic

message:

It is a pretty straightforward yet moving gesture.

It is no new knowledge that choosing the right

words is essential.

Crafting the perfect message and expressing

how much you care about someone may be

difficult, but it is gratifying. A framed, thoughtful

fluttery nudge in your direction.

pampered.

Ozo Chukwu:

The Road to Fame

Words by Sebastian Ebathemehi

Big Brother Naija Season 5,

also known as Big Brother

Naija: Lockdown remains

one of the best editions of

the highly sought after reality TV

shows editions yet.

It was the fifth season of the

Nigerian version of the reality

show - Big Brother. It premiered

on 19 July 2020, Ex-housemate

Ebuka Obi-Uchendu from

season one returned as host.

The edition boasts of many

top housemates who gave

viewers across the globe a

tough time every weekend

during the evictions. One

of such contestants was

Ozoemena Joseph Chukwu,

fondly referred to as Ozo.

Ozo evicted from the show

penultimate week, but by then

he had drawn admiration from

millions of viewers; who saw him

as overly handsome and gentle.

Ozo was born on 4 August

1993 in Imo state and worked as

a consultant and entrepreneur.

According to him, one of his

most outstanding achievements

was to work with UEFA Federation

for Europe.

He is the only son out of four

siblings, making many to tag

him a ladies man. Ozo has

three Doctors in his family (his

father and two sisters), his other

sister is a lawyer, and his mum is

a professor.

He attended the Kharkiv

National University Of Radio

Electronics, where he graduated

with a first-class Bachelor of

Science degree in Economics

and Cybernetics.

Between 2016 and 2018, he

was a student at Riga Technical

University, based in Riga, Latvia,

Northern Europe. He graduated

with a Master of Science degree

in Business and Financial

Management.

In 2017, BBNaija Ozo

attended the Biznesa Augstskola

Turiba (or Turiba University), the

largest business school in Latvia.

At Turiba University, Ozoemena

Chukwu obtained a degree in

Strategic Communication for

Leadership, Communication

and Media Studies.

Throughout his stay in the

Lockdown house, fans and

housemates described Ozo as

a master communicator; he

was also famous for his superb

presentation skills.

In 2017, Ozo trained at the

Professional Football Scouts

Association where he obtained

football scouting skills.

According to The360report,

Ozo’s net worth is estimated to

be $45,000. As stated earlier,

Ozo has worked for different

companies and held reputable

positions in each. He also

made more than 3million Naira

as a brand ambassador for

indigenous car manufacturing

company, Innoson Motors while

in Biggie’s house.

Ozo was the first Housemate

to enter the Lockdown House.

His House journey was quite

remarkable; he won many

wager and tasks; this stride

earned him a solid fan base.

In this edition of Glamsquad

Magazine, we saw with Ozo

to get Up-Close and Personal

INTERVIEW

Glamsquad: Tell us about

your background, how was

growing up l?

Ozo: Growing up was so much

fun, grew up in a family where

education, love, humility and

respect were the core values.

My Dad is a medical doctor, my

Mom has her PhD, my two older

sisters are medical doctors, and

my little sister is a lawyer. It helped

me to dedicate myself to live a

positive life and achieve positive

results.

Glamsquad: What inspired

you to take part In BBNaija?

Ozo: I knew that the show

gives any person that gets the

opportunity to be on it a huge

platform. And this is something

I took into consideration as I’ve

always wanted to work and

crack the code of achieving

great results within the sports,

entertainment and fashion

industries.

Glamsquad: What lesson did

you learn from the show?

Ozo: Regardless of where I see

myself in life, it’s crucial to be who

I am and not try to play to any

script that the essential thing in life

is to be original.

Glamsquad: What has been

your experience since leaving

the show?

Ozo: My experience has been

incredible, of course. When you

become popular or famous, you

have to learn to take both positive

and negative compliments, but I’ll

always take the positive ones and

pay no mind to negativity.

Glamsquad: What inspires

your fashion choices?

Ozo: what influences my

fashion choice is the ‘classic

young man’, who at times, would

like to look casual and relaxed.

From suits to traditional and urban

wears. You’ll find me wearing

anything that makes have a

responsible look.

Glamsquad: We know you

have hot legs and a beautiful

body, why do you like wearing

shorts? Show off or Just your

style?

Ozo: My style is centred

around comfort, so wearing

shorts especially in the hot

weather has been of great relief

to me, and you can wear them

anywhere but not to the office or

meeting rooms. So yes it’s more

of a personal style thing.

Glamsquad: How do you

handle trolls?

Ozo: Air them, the funny

thing some fans now call me

ozoairmena. In life, you answer

to what you want to reply to. So if

people call you nasty names, let

them be but respond to the good

ones.

Glamsquad: You’ve been

signing deals, what makes you

know that a particular brand is

right for you?

Ozo: Most times, I look at how

I could help the brand grow and

www.glamsquadmagazine.com 17

INTERVIEW

how the brand aligns with my

brand. These are important for

me to consider, as you can’t

sign with all the brands that

approach you.

Glamsquad: How do you

handle your female admirers

since you became a star?

Ozo: I wouldn’t say I’m a

star yet, but I get where you’re

coming. It’s always great when

you have people admire you as

long as it’s for the right reasons

personally I’m just really grateful

that have all these people you

love and wish me well.

Glamsquad: What should

we expect from the “Ozo

Brand”?

Ozo: It’s a marathon, not

a sprint, and that’s my brand.

So gradually we’ll continue to

achieve great results within the

sports entertainment and fashion

industries. I believe that they’re

no boundaries with an ounce

of hope and we’ll make sure

to impact the lives of people

around us as we have a role to

play to create not just Nigeria,

Africa but the world a better

place.

After the first lockdown sometime in March

2020, I guess we all thought by now we would

be back to normal life. Well, sadly we are not

(not entirely, at least). It’s February and we’re

still adhering to COVID-19 restrictions. Staying home

for Valentines do you does not mean it cannot be fun

for you and your partner, our love and energy surely

did not go into the lockdown.

LIFESTYLE

Movies night

This might sound a little bit cliché,

but It’s actually a simple and

cozy way to spend Valentine’s

Day with a lover while adhering

the COVID-19 regulation of

avoiding public gatherings.

From romantic comedies to

animations to classics and much

more, are all valid answers to the

‘what do we watch?’ question,

especially on Valentine’s Day. It’s

time to curl up on the couch,

grab cozy blankets and some

popcorn, right and settled in with

your partner to watch a movie

and enjoy the bliss of each

other’s presence.

How To Celebrate

The Valentine With

Covid-19 Rule & Lockdown

Below are a few ways to spend Valentine’s

Day with your partner in the partial

lockdown with COVID-19 restrictions.

Set up a home dinner date:

Staying home in comfortable clothes is easily tempting but to make the day

special, it will be great to add an extra something. Why not make an effort to

dress up, plan meals and pop one or two bottles. A home date can be an

exotic one; with wines and luxury meals (maybe, even prepared together)

or a casual one with pizza and soda, the idea is to enjoy romance and

experience your special ‘night out’ from home.

Exchange gifts

The ultimate goal of celebrating

Valentine’s Day with your partner is

to make them feel special and it

doesn’t really matter where you do

it; it is the thoughts that you put into

it that truly matters. Gift exchange at

home on Valentine’s Day, is a great

way to express to your partner your

thoughts towards them, because a

gift, no matter how small is a solid

and emphatic statement that you

cherish someone. It is a gesture of

love and kindness. You should also

know that gift exchange bolsters

connection between lovers.

HOW FAR WITH

YOUR SIDE-HUSTLE

By February, most of us are fed

up of “New Year, New Start,

New Me” as the reality sets in

that not much has changed.

While it’s easy to get caught up in

the excitement of trying new things,

it’s easier to revert back to ‘comfort

is that it doesn’t have to be an

overwhelming struggle and fight

trying your best every day.

If financial freedom is a priority

for you, rather than looking for a

Words by - Patty Munor

Staying healthy is a part of everyday practice. Whether done

consciously or unconsciously everything we eat and our lifestyle

choices are heavily reflected in how healthy we turn out. For some

people, the choice cultivates a healthy habit based on underlying

conditions or sudden illness; for others, it’s a natural way of life.

In this era that has become our new norm, we are obligated to do

right by ourselves to extend our lives and protect ourselves and others

by imbibing healthier options into our lifestyle choices.

This sweet and savoury fruit contains up to

two-third of the daily recommended dose of

vitamin C the body needs. This antioxidantrich

fruit boosts the immune system and

prevents cold and flu. They are seasonal

fruits that are available in the earlier part of

the year and are very affordable.

ARLIC & GINGER

Most people do not like the smell of roots

like ginger and garlic. However, they are

among the healthiest and flavourful

spices on earth. When combined, garlic

and ginger are essential compounds

that are highly beneficial to the body

and brain. Studies show that the blend

of both have a long history of both

boosting the immune system and reducing

inflammation. Infuse these spices into your meals,

MY WORLD

TRAVELING

WITHOUT

MOVING

by Megha Joshi

For the best part of the

past two decades, I

have enjoyed a lifestyle

that is rooted in travel

and discovery. From all

expenses paid business

trips, to spontaneous all-girls

holidays, to surprise romantic

escapades and off-road

explorations, where the

anticipation of hopping off

to new unknown destinations

and experiencing the thrill

of an adventure unfolding,

glitches and all, was

always something I found

enthralling. In fact, the

mere thought of choosing

a stylish capsule wardrobe

and arranging the logistics is

giving me butterflies all over

again!

So, let me fast forward to

the present, and contrast all

that with where I am today.

Grounded!

In one place, one

city, Lagos, one

accommodation, with a

blank schedule, zero plans

for any upcoming escape

from the remoteness of WFH,

and not even

the faintest

of hope of a

surprise guest

or visitors.

The past 12

months have

been a ‘trip’ of a

different dimension.

So how have I “survived”

lockdown in Lagos?!

Well, without sounding too

cheesy, I feel immensely

grateful to be living in a

property, that boasts one of

MY WORLD

the best views in Lagos, and

spectacular, glorious sunsets

every day, which for the best

part of the past decade, I

had never been home on

time, to savour. It became

the perfect opportunity for

me to downsize and donate

accumulated ‘treasures’

that no longer spark the joy

Marie Kondo promotes, and

clear 10,000’s of photos from

the iCloud. This mindset led

to a deeper understanding

of being stricter about

everything I consumed,

so greasy home-comforts

became plant-based (costeffective)

vegan

alternatives, and I

shed 12kgs as a

side-benefit of

the process.

I quit

watching TV

or anything

that depicted

violence, but

social media

became

a gateway

to a world

of dazzling,

colourful

and vibrant

profiles

of hotels,

travel

destinations,

endangered

species,

architecture,

international

cuisine

and even

dialogues with the

personalities curating

these pages. I learned

to set the phone App

timer, for one hour a day, to

be deliberate about what I

engage with, and to ensure

that it would be a productive

and uplifting experience.

In real-time, these efforts

translated into becoming

intentional about nourishing

relationships which felt like

happiness, and revitalising

friendships that needed

tender loving care and

attention. Zoom parties

have replaced going out,

and sending/receiving care

packages are the new

expressions of love. My thirst

for nature and the outdoors

has been quenched with

getaways to nearby beaches

at Tarkwa Bay and the

Lighthouse –both a short

boat ride away, where I

can frolic in the sea, under

the tropical sunshine, and

enjoy abundant fresh fruits

and coconut water which

taste like the very definition

of paradise – to my mind

this has to be the best local

experience Lagos has to

offer. One of the fascinating

things about travelling is it’s

on-the-go reminder of the

limited nature of our time,

so our mindset becomes

rooted in seizing the moment

and creating as many new

experiences as possible.

However, the scenario

of facing unlimited time, in

one place, with restricted

choices, pushes us to

experience another kind

of journey – one of selfdiscovery,

of treasuring our

whole environment, and to

Life happens to everyone.

Life mysteries happen

class, race, background,

wealth or health. Divorce,

loss, pain, suffering, and now

the unprecedented global

pandemic occurred to

everyone worldwide: Throughout

every corner of the earth, no

one can escape the nemesis of

How can we navigate

life so much so that when

confronted with the nuances

and challenges that can plunge

grip of reality into an abyss that

plummets us into a myriad of

strife within the confines of a

labyrinth, full of despair grief and

shape, the form and strategy

that will unravel the uncertainty

and map our way out of the

abyss. How do we navigate our

way out of this litany of errors

within this precarious set of the

dysfunctional and abysmal

situation causing the underlying

dismal dislocation of our

peace?

Once our peace and what

we know is compromised,

our attitude will determine our

altitude. We can take a step

back, take a deep breath. Yes,

breathe and then reflect. The

answer to our trial is always in

detail; the benefits of hindsight

is a great and good thing if

you can own your truth, you

can find your errors or where

you have erred but be patient

with yourself, forgive yourself

for remembering something.

Some people are not worth

fighting for, always remember

to be in a place where you are

celebrated. Some people are

in your life for a season; you

cannot turn a leaf to a plate or

turn a tree to a root; they both

have their respective functions.

Let the leaves be leaves, never

confuse the role of people in

your life. Life is so transient you

only have one life; it is a travesty

to waste it, and more poignantly

life is too short for you not to

stand tall.

Despite the trials or

tribulations we face, some

people can navigate the

depths of prejudice, inequality,

poverty or disadvantage and

triumph. ; turning their problems

to victory, by propelling

themselves out of the situation,

whilst others stare in hopeless

abandonment, and their life

spirals out of control.

The struggle strife and

suffering can be so damaging,

distressing, with many

devastating consequences

divorce suicide or sudden

death. When bad things

happen, everyone rushes to

judgement; no one stands

back; everyone hastily uses the

benefit of hindsight to analyse

the situation. For example,

Whitney Houston, the cruel

untruths range from had she not

married Bobby Brown she would

be alive, or had she married

Eddy Murphy! The latter called

Whitney on her wedding day

to warn her against the nuptials

with Brown, or wait for this; if she

had married Robyn Crawford,

she would be alive today! The

trajectory would have been

different. With Diana, the story

making the rounds was that

Diana died because she lost her

royal security. Michael Jackson

was said to have suffered

abuse from the father that, his

father was too strict. The reason

he died was full of fanciful

speculation. The judgement

and answers are endless. The

trajectory is one straight jacket,

and the narrative

created to fit the

bias and innuendo

of a particular

flawed stream of

consciousness.

People ignore

that life has its twists

and turns; life is so

transient, and we

are all so vulnerable

to fate, destiny and

humanity.

Those who eventually

committed suicide are

criticised and deemed selfish

and insensitive for not giving

a thought to their families left

behind.

Really? That is so patronising!

Why don’t people step into

the despair, the grief and strife

Michael Jackson

princess diana

being experienced so that they

are fully supported when things

get so bad for them to want

to end it. The person who takes

their own life thinks of nothing.

But only the magnitude of their

present ongoing grief or the why

or the now of the strife.

So what can be done when

it feels like it’s the curtain call?

And you feel the urge to shut

down and say goodbye to the

world. Can we plan .against

our adversity? Can we set up

strategies to avoid our downfall?

When our world comes

crashing down, and it seems

there is nothing we can do,

we should realise our world

is down for a reason

and remember that our

attitude to the problem

will determine our

altitude. We can turn our

pain to medicine that will

fuel our energy to turn our

wound to wisdom, and

the chime for changing

your devastating situation

should be your fuel to

propel and ignite your

fire.

Life does happen,

never shut down and

say goodbye. Things

will always happen and

be unexpected, own

your pain, own your misery,

acknowledge your situation,

take ownership of your rescue

out of the problem. You can

either swim or sink!

Sometimes, we can never

control the power of destiny; we

may be unable to determine

the course of providence, our

life choices, chances and

decisions hold

down our life

circumstances.

When our

world collapses,

and we want

and wish to

say ‘goodbye

world’ and close

the curtain, we

should believe

when there is

a will; there is

a way. You don’t need to say

‘goodbye world’, you need to

tell the world ‘welcome world.’
